Got a question about ICC Profiles or colour management?

Logo Release

The International Color Consortium (ICC) is  encouraging all vendors who market software, imaging devices and other products that comply with its color management specification to highlight this compliance by displaying the ICC logo on their packaging, websites, literature and in other appropriate places.

"The ICC Specification is increasingly recognized as a powerful tool in promoting consistent color definition and reproduction across platforms and devices," notes Lars Borg, ICC Chair  and Principal Scientist, Adobe Systems. "Companies whose products comply with the ICC specification should be proud of that fact and should take pains to be sure their customers are fully aware of it."

Electronic files for two ICC logos are available for download free of charge on the Consortium web site at www.color.org/icclogos.html.  Separate logos are available to indicate implementation of Version 2 and Version 4 of the ICC Specification.

ICC itself does not endorse or certify products. Instead, vendors self-certify that their products comply with the Consortium?s recommendations for creation of color profiles.

"Vendors supporting the ICC have put aside their own proprietary concerns and shared their knowledge," Borg says, "with the goal of creating of an open, vendor-neutral, cross-platform color management system architecture and components."

Applying ICC color profiles to jobs can reduce waste, streamline workflows, and improve color quality and consistency dramatically, the Consortium says. To enable users to identify ICC-compliant products easily, ICC urges vendors to display the appropriate logos on their websites, in their literature, on packaging and in other high-visibility settings.

The International Color Consortium was established in 1993 by eight industry vendors and has since grown to more than 60 members, including consultants and academic experts as well as vendor personnel. New participants are always welcome, and complete information can be found at www.color.org or contact Administrator William K. Smythe at 703/264-7200 or e-mail ksmythe@npes.org.  NPES The Association for Suppliers of Printing, Publishing and Converting Technologies serves as administrative secretariat to the ICC.
